OGDEN — Police shot and killed a dog that threatened officers
responding to a burglary-in-progress call, Friday night, officials say.
The
incident occurred in the 500 block of 7th Street around 11:30 p.m., Lt.
Scott Conley said. As officers walked up to the residence, the
complainant was standing outside the home with the dog, which began
barking, then charged at the two officers, Conley said.
One
officer fired two shots at the approaching canine from about 10 feet
away, killing it, Conley said. “The officer felt threatened and took
steps to eliminate the threat.”
The dog’s owner had not formally
complained to the department as of Saturday afternoon, he said. On-duty
supervisory staff investigated the incident and will forward a report to
the departmental shooting review board to ensure it complied with
policy.
The burglary report proved to be a trespass where no suspect was identified.
Ogden
police shot another dog on March 3. Officers say the dog charged them,
while the animal’s owner says the dog never attacked.
